We are in SVT class, the lab smells of alcohol and plants. Microscopes are shining on the tables and everyone is working while Chou is desperately looking for his favorite pen.
Suddenly, Chou can’t find his pen and accuses Carrote without any proof, shouting in front of everyone: “You took it, for sure!” Carrote, angry and annoyed, crosses his arms and replies: “I didn’t do anything”. The class begins to whisper and divide; some support Chou, others support Carrote. No one comes up with solutions and the teacher barely manages to calm everyone down: the atmosphere becomes uncomfortable and hostile.
– “Carrote, give it back and we’re done.”
– “I don’t have your pen, stop pointing at me.”
– “Stop: let’s get the pen without blaming until we have proof.”
If you were a teacher or delegate, how would you clarify without humiliating? Propose a protocol in 10 minutes:
(1) pause and timeline;
(2) neutral search (tables/floor) and voluntary review of material;
(3) if not found, record in “lost and found” and agree to temporary loan;
(4) brief restorative check-out (name impact, agree not to accuse without proof). What would you do next if it turns up in another backpack by mistake?
Roles at table: Chou (owner), Carrote (pointed), SVT teacher, allied partner, witness, delegate.
