It’s the first weeks of school. Everything smells like new books and wet sweatshirts. Matthew enters the school in clean, but unmarked clothes. All it takes is someone noticing him and commenting on it for eyes to follow him down the hallway.
A classmate starts with the typical joke about clothes:
– “No mark again?”
As soon as the first few laugh, the others perk up.
Soon everything becomes uncomfortable: giggles, comments, gestures to make Matthew feel bad about what he is wearing.
Within a few days, the harassment moves from the hallway to the cell phone:
They send him messages picking on him,
Sometimes they threaten him or tell him not to “show up”.
Matthew begins to sleep badly and, every morning, his stomach clenches for fear of what awaits him at school.
Many see what is happening… but look at the ground, for fear of becoming the next one.
After a while, the teasing subsides, but the pain remains: Matthew never knows if the bullying will start again.
– “No mark again?”
– “My clothes are clean, just like I deserve respect.”
– “Come on, just kidding.”
– “If I’m scared to come, it’s no joke.”
I’m your partner and I’m not passing you by today.
1. Now (10 s): I stand next to you: “Here we don’t judge by clothes. That’s enough.
2. Visible support: I walk you to class and sit with you; I recruit two more.
3. Messaging: with you, we save dated screenshots and block; we go to tutoring/CPE and ask for no-contact and follow-up.
4. whatsapp group: cut the joke in chat (“don’t forward/delete”) and if they insist, I report with other witnesses.
5. Classroom (this week): I propose clear rule: “People are not valued by brands”, common cut signal and peer support bank.
6. Social bridge: I invite you to our team/pair work and we take turns accompanying each other during breaks.
7. If there is retaliation: we elevate with evidence and ask for safe route in/out.
Roles at table: Matthew, initial taunter, peer chorus, partner ally (narrator), tutor/CPE, delegate, passive witnesses who can be activated.
