In this story we will call the main characters “apples and pears”. It was midday in the courtyard. There were two distinct groups: the “apples” on one side, the “pears” on the other. Backpacks, benches and even stickers made the division between them.
The “apples” were harassing me for a long time, until I found support among the “pears”. I never dared to tell the teachers or at home, I just took refuge in my new group. Little by little, I encouraged the “pears” to hurt back: we started to ignore, push away and humiliate the “apples”, thinking they would learn how it feels.
But in the end, the two groups remained separated and we just shifted the pain around. Now it was the “apples” who felt alone and hurt by the bullying; the wound did not heal, it just turned from one side to the other.
– “Let them rott, let them suffer as we suffer.”
– “What if we are just repeating the damage?”
– “How do we stop this without being just like them?”
If it were you, an allied “pear” or a mentor, how do you cut the cycle without humiliating?
Propose:
1. Now (24 h): clear limits on bullying, stop the rumor-mongering, ask for mediation with safety rules.
2. Repair: guided apples-to-apples conversation, acknowledgment of harm, verifiable agreements, supporters moving from “side” to “care”.
3. Structural: visible course pact, active witness training, consequences for recidivism and mixed cooperation spaces.
Roles at the table: narrator, “apple” leader, “pear” ally, passive witness, mediating tutor, friend who hesitates between sides.
