It was Monday and the day was gray. The hallway smelled of wet clothes and posters were falling off the walls. Cell phones kept ringing and every time you walked by, conversations were cut off and no one looked you in the eye.
Without ever having spoken to the person accusing you, you are suddenly called “stalker”. It all started with whispers, then messages in groups, and then weeks passed with stares and laughter directed at you. They call you to warn you, but no one shows you proof, no messages, no facts: there is only the rumor and the label. You leave class feeling isolated and afraid, and although you ask for everything to be cleared up in public, you are left without an answer.
– “What evidence do they have against me?”
– “Someone feels harassed, that’s the important thing.”
– “What if there is nothing, how do you take care of yourself without mistakenly blaming?”
If you were a guardian, delegate or witness, design a 3-layered response:
1. Now (48 h): fact-checking (timeline, evidence), symmetrical no-contact plan, emotional support for both parties.
2. Reparation: if falsehood is confirmed, institutional denial (without exposing), voluntary restorative meeting with mediation and agreements.
3. Structural: anti-rumor protocol, active witness training, confidential channel for reporting and follow-up.
Roles at the table: person accused, person accusing, tutor, mediator, management team, delegate, witness.
